How Does Botox Help TMJ?

Do you suffer from chronic jaw pain? If so, you’re not alone. Temporomandibular joint disorder, or TMJ, is a common condition that can cause significant pain and discomfort. There are many treatments available for TMJ, including Botox injections. In this blog post, we will discuss how Botox helps relieve the symptoms of TMJ and how it can help you get back to your life!

What is TMJ?

TMJ is a disorder that affects the temporomandibular joint, which is the hinge joint that connects your jaw to your skull. TMJ can cause various symptoms, such as:

– Pain in the chewing muscles and/or jaw joint

– Painful clicking or popping sounds when opening or closing the mouth

– Jaw stiffness

– Difficulty chewing or pain while chewing

– Pain that spreads to the face and neck

– Headaches

– Limited movement or jaw locking in place

– The jaw dislocating in the joint

– Pain in the ear and the teeth

TMJ is often caused by stress or injury to the jaw joint, but it can also be caused by teeth grinding or clenching, arthritis, and even genetics. While there is no cure for TMJ, treatments can help relieve the symptoms.

How does Botox help TMJ?

Botox is not only an injectable treatment used for cosmetic procedures. It can also help relax the muscles around the jaw, which can, in turn, help relieve the pain and other symptoms associated with TMJ. Botox works by temporarily lowering muscle contraction around the injection site, which reduces muscle activity and therefore decreases pain. Botox injections for TMJ are usually given every three months, and most patients see a significant improvement in their symptoms after the first treatment.

Providence Dental Spa is here for you.

A certified team member will administer the botox to the appropriate facial muscle during the procedure. Many of our patients have shown little reaction to the injection procedure while feeling quick relief afterward

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, please call Providence Dental Spa at (478) 796-9707. We would be happy to set up an appointment to understand your situation better and help you decide if botox is the best solution for you.
